Hema stores up for sale

Maxeda, the owner of retail chains Hema, Bijenkorf, V&D and Praxis, has put the 80-year-old Hema group up for sale. The divestment is expected to be completed before the summer.

Hema is ready to go on without the rest of the group, said Maxeda boss Tony DeNunzio in today’s Volkskrant. ‘It is very successful and performing better than in the original plan.’
Maxeda, formerly Vendex KBB, was bought by a group of private investors in 2004. DeNunzio declined to comment on the price being asked. Hema booked sales of €1.3bn last year.
