Minister sorry about fur fuss

Economic affairs minister Maria van der Hoeven sent the animal rights party Partij voor de Dieren a letter today saying she would not have worn a fox fur collar at the swearing-in ceremony for the new cabinet last week if she had known the fuss it would create.

The minister said it had not been her intention to make a political statement. She has received 5,000 emails from the public criticising her decision to wear fur.
