Dutch give €1m in aid to Ivory Coast

The Dutch are to give €1m in international aid to Ivory Coast to help pay for the clean up of toxic waste from the Amstelveen-registered ship Probo Koala. The national government is donating €700,000 via the UN environmental programme and Amsterdam council is contributing another €300,000.

In total the UN needs $30m to clean up the environmental mess caused when the waste was dumped around the port city of Abdijan last summer. Ten people died and thousands became ill.
