Tele2 to bid for football rights
Swedish telecom firm Tele2, which has an 80% stake in Dutch provider Versatel, is determined to hold onto the broadcast rights to live football which are currently in the hands of Versatel. Versatel paid €91.5m for three seasons. The contract expires next summer. .
Tele2’s Consumer Market Director, Günther Vogelpoel, says losses made on that contract were largely due to its tough restrictions. He said Tele2 was in talks with the clubs about the new licensing round
