Mittal boss is investors’ man of the year

India’s Lakshmi Mittal, CEO of steel group Arcelor Mittal, has been voted man of the year by members of the Dutch investors association (VEB) with 18.6% of the votes. Mittal won his placing because of his victory in the takeover battle for Arcelor.

‘Mittal surprised both friend and enemy when he made an offer for Arcelor in January 2006,’ the VEB said. ‘Despite heavy opposition, he went on to be successful.’
Rudi de Becker, head of trading group Hagemeyer, came a narrow second in the poll. Didier Keller of SBM Offshore was third.
