Amsterdam wants ban on circus animals
Amsterdam council executive Marijke Vos is to urge the cabinet to draw up tough rules governing the use of animals in circuses. The city voted in favour of a ban on circuses featuring animals last year but was unable to implement it because of national laws.
ANP says the issue came to a head in December when it emerged two sea lions used in the Carré Christmas circus were being kept in a small tank in the car park.
