Rotterdam traffic police confiscated 600 driving licences last year, almost double the 2005 total. A spokeswoman said the increase was due to a stronger focus on tackling drivers that exceeded speed and alcohol limits.

Of the 600 who lost their licence, 452 were driving at least 50 kph above the legal speed limit.
