Trade unions have reacted furiously to proposals by employers to include the demotion of older employees as part of upcoming pay talks.

Giving older workers less demanding work and lower pay is only an option on a voluntary basis, says the FNV trade union federation in today’s Volkskrant.
‘This is the first thing we’re going to wipe off the negotiating table,’ FNV spokesman Paulus Plas told the paper.
