Top UN job for crown prince

Crown prince Willem-Alexander has been appointed chairman of the heavyweight UN committee on water and sanitary provisions, charged with ensuring that 1.1 billion people have access to clean drinking water by 2015.

‘It is an acknowledgement of my activities,’ the prince said on Tuesday at a meeting with royal correspondents. Willem-Alexander, who has been involved with water issues for some years, will report directly to the UN secretary general.
