Soldiers could face Iraq ‘torture’ charges

Dutch soldiers involved in the controversial interrogation of 15 Iraqi soldiers in 2003 may still face criminal charges, the Volkskrant reports this morning. The paper says justice minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin has not ruled out court proceedings, pending the publication of two reports into the affair.

Defence ministry officials have confirmed that the 15 Iraqis had their eyes covered with ski goggles to disorientate them, had water thrown on them when they were suspected of lying and were subject to very loud music during their interrogation.
