Shareholders back Euronext merger
Just over 98% of the Euronext shareholders at Tuesday’s extraordinary shareholders meeting have voted in favour of the merger with the New York Stock Exchange. Some 65% of shareholders were represented at the meeting. NYSE shareholders vote tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the Financieele Dagblad reports that finance minister Gerrit Zalm has written to Euronext and the NYSE demanding that his successors be given the right to break open the merger if they feel US rules were becoming too influential.
If the exchanges agree, it would give the Dutch finance minister the role of watchdog on behalf of European investors, the paper says.
