Princess Margriet letters in blackmail case
A 74-year-old man has appeared in court in The Hague charged with demanding €2.5m from prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende in return for letters belonging to Queen Beatrix’s sister princess Margriet. The man, who was angry over allegations of theft made against him in the 1970s, which he said ruined his business, was wrongly delivered the letters last year.
