Nuon wants to build German power plant

Energy concern Nuon wants to a 400MW gas-fired power plant in Frankfurt to strengthen its position on the German market. A definitive decision on the investment – believed to run into several millions of euros – will be made at the start of 2008, the company said.

If it goes ahead, the new facility could go on line in 2010. According to today’s Volkskrant, 10% of the company’s turnover comes from Germany and Belgium. Its biggest rival, Essent, has seven medium-sized power plants in Germany, the paper adds.
