Most Dutch watch tv on New Year’s Eve

While the rest of Europe is partying on New Year’s Eve, most (56%) Dutch people are likely to be at home in front of the tv, according to a survey by Motivaction, reports today’s Telegraaf.

The survey, commissioned by the state lottery, looked at how the Dutch, British, French, Spanish, Belgians and Germans spend the last night of the year.
Southerners are the most likely to celebrate in a café or restaurant (31%) and although – or perhaps because – the Spanish drink the least, they are the latest to go to bed (32% after 6am!). The biggest drinkers are the British.
Meanwhile back in Holland, 45% of the population let off fireworks and 46% consume ‘oliebollen’ (sweet deep-fried dough). And the Dutch are the least likely to make plans for the new year.
