Experiment with 17-year-old drivers

Transport minister Karla Peijs is to start an experiment allowing 17-year-olds to drive a car under the supervision of an adult, according to today’s AD.

Peijs told the paper she was impressed by a similar scheme in Germany which had cut road deaths involving young drivers by 11%. At the moment learner drivers in Holland have to be 18 and may only drive with an authorised driving instructor.
