Court backs terror deportation to US

Justice minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin has been given the legal green light to deport Dutch-Iranian terrorist suspect Wesam al D to the US. Al D is suspected of involvement in a bomb attack on US troops in Iraq in 2003. Al D, in Iraq for his wedding, says he was forced to take part.

His lawyers argued against deportation, saying Al D would not get a fair trial and risked being tortured. Hirsch Ballin said that the US had guaranteed Al D’s rights would be respected. ANP reports that Al D will be the first alleged terrorist to be tried in the US since the 11 September attacks.
