Business calls for greener cabinet

Some of the Netherlands’ top business leaders have written an open letter to informateur Rein Jan Hoekstra – the man putting together a new government – calling for a cabinet with a strong environmental leaning.

The signatories include Unilever’s Antony Burgmans, Rein Willems of Shell Nederland, Rijkman Groenink of ABN Amro, Peter Bakker of TNT and Leo van Wijk from KLM.
The leaders call for a global approach to environmental policy. There has been too little attention in recent years for nature, biodiversity and climate, they say.
The letter, which was also sent to the outgoing cabinet and party leaders, calls for a ‘bigger priority’ to be given to green issues in the next cabinet. ‘This is in the interest of our future, our economy and our welfare,’ it concluded.
