Betuwe blockade threatened over safety
Thirty-seven municipalities situated along the route of the Betuwelijn freight railway (see Alphabet Soup) are threatening to launch a blockade unless they get more guarantees over safety.
Among their worries are a concern about the lack of water in the ditches alongside the track, which would be used to put out a fire, and the absence of a proper system for diverting power away from the high-voltage cables.
