Storm-force gales batter the north
Winds gusting at up to 100 km per hour battered the north of the country overnight. In the Wadden Sea the storm was expected to reach force 10. Heavy rain also covered much of the country.
Weather bureaus warned that the rest of the country could also be hit by severe gusts of wind in the early hours, causing some structural damage. The wind is expected to die down during the day.
Water levels in the region Lauwersoog to Delfzijl were expected to reach four metres above NAP by 6am – a once every 10 year occurance. Along the coast between Hoek van Holland and Den Helder there were also warnings of high water.
See Alphabet Soup later today for an explanation of NAP
