Public prosecutor to probe bank bankruptcy

The Public Prosecution Department (OM), is to investigate the bankruptcy of Van der Hoop Bankiers in December 2005.


On Friday, the bank’s curators published their report on the bankruptcy, saying both the Dutch Central Bank and Van der Hoop’s accountants, Deloitte, should have started looking into its financial situation far earlier. Van der Hoop first showed signs of being in trouble in 2000.
A risk analysis would have highlighted its ‘organisational and financial weaknesses’ the curators said.
