Avoid rural roads, TomTom told

Car satellite navigation system maker TomTom has made a deal with the highways authority Rijskwaterstaat over which routes to recommend to drivers, the AD reports today.

The authority wants the TomTom system to encourage drivers away from smaller roads and to avoid village centres and residential areas, the paper says. In September, the local councils’ organisation VNG complained that TomTom was sending lorries onto country lanes which were not suitable for heavy traffic.
