Newspaper group PCM declares war
Newspaper group PCM has ‘declared war’ on the newspaper market. ‘It is time to stop being nice to each other. We want to expand our market leadership,’ said chairman Ton aan de Stegge at a broadcasting conference yesterday.
Dutch newspapers are struggling to deal with falling circulations and advertising income. PCM owns three of the five national dailies (Volkskrant,Trouw and NRC Handelsblad) and 63% of the fourth (AD). It is considering launching a free paper next year.
