Man found dead on sunbed on Scheveningen beach

A man who was found dead on a sunbed on the beach at Scheveningen on Monday may have succumbed to the hot weather, a police spokesman has told the Telegraaf.

The elderly man was a regular visitor to beach café De Waterreus, owner Kim Ludovici told the paper. ‘He came here every day, it was his favourite spot. He had been making jokes earlier in the day, there was nothing to show he wasn’t feeling ok,’ she said.

A police spokesman said there were no signs of foul play but that the heat may have been a factor.

The café’s staff was alerted by another guest who was on a sunbed nearby. ‘He immediately felt his pulse and went for the AED, but it was too late,’ Ludovici said.

Extreme temperatures can lead to heat stroke, which can be fatal.
