The Dutch government is to get a new ‘national coordinator discrimination and racism’, home affairs minister Kasja Ollongren told MPs on Wednesday.

In addition, Ollongren says she hopes to establish a special committee next spring which will carry out long term research into discrimination and racism, and the mechanisms which drive it.

The ideas have been developed in the wake of July’s parliamentary debate on institutionalised racism.

Survey after survey confirms racism does exist in NL

Currently, discrimination and racism fall under several different ministries and that makes a more coordinated approach necessary, Ollongren said.

‘There is discrimination in almost every part of society (including work, care, the housing market, education, sport, in public places),’ Ollongren said in her briefing.
