Car dealers sold 111,146 second-hand cars in May, the one but highest monthly total ever, garage association Bovag said on Wednesday.

Bovag research indicates that around half of commuters who used to travel to work by train are now planning to use alternatives, and 57% are opting to use a car.

In addition, 91% of the 1,185 consumers questioned for the research said they would use their car more often, in an effort to avoid public transport.

In April the sale of second hand cars plunged by 26%, year on year and in March the drop was 14%. The May figure was still 5% down on May 2019, which was the record month.
