Dutch food delivery service Takeaway.com increased the number of orders it processed last year by 70%, the company said in a trading update on Tuesday.

Growth was particularly strong in Germany, where its Lieferando brand boosted orders by 113%, the company said. In the Netherlands, where the company trades as Thuisbezorgd.nl, deliveries rose 16%.

‘Takeaway.com delivered strong order growth in the fourth quarter of 2019, especially in Germany, where our growth accelerated compared with previous quarters,’ founder and chief executive Jitse Groen said.

‘Last year was a memorable year for our company, in many ways, and we are excited to continue to build the absolute best online food delivery company in 2020.’

Last week Takeaway finalised its takeover of British food delivery group Just Eat, after shareholders representing over 80% of the voting rights agreed to tender their shares, rejecting a rival offer by the Prosus group.

The deal creates one of the world’s largest meal delivery companies. The new combo will have 23 subsidiaries in Europe, Canada, Australia and Latin America.
