The Hague city council plans to introduce mobile teams to target specific community groups in a bid to boost the vaccination rate among youngsters in the city.

The vaccinate rate in The Hague has fallen to 87.9%, well below the World Health Organisation’s recommended 95%, forcing officials to take action.

The campaign will focus on encouraging teenagers to be vaccinated against the HPV virus, which can cause cervical cancer, and meningococcal W. The teams will be based in schools and community centres.

All 13 and 14-year-olds are being offered the jab against meningococcal W, which has claimed 41 lives since 2015. The publicity campaign started last October.
