The Dutch women’s football team kicked off their campaign in the European championships on Sunday evening with a 1-0 win over Norway.

‘We have shown what we are worth,’ coach Sarina Wiegman said after the Group A match. ‘It is great that we were able to demonstrate such good football.’ The only goal of the game was scored in the 66th minute by Liverpool’s Shanice van de Sanden.

The competition is being hosted in the Netherlands and the opening game, at the Galgenwaard stadium in Utrecht, was sold out.

The next Dutch games are on July 20, when they meet Denmark and Belgium on July 24.
