The Netherlands almost tops international traffic jam ranking

The Netherlands is the second most congested country in Europe and North America, according to a new ranking by US traffic management group Inrix.

Belgium tops the list and Britain is in third place. Inrix bases its calculations on motorists’ GPS systems and says Dutch drivers spend an average 53 hours a year stuck in traffic.
Countries where the eurozone debt crisis has hit hardest have shown a drop in traffic congestion, the research shows.
Rotterdam is the highest placed Dutch city on the metropolitan area index in 8th place. Milan and Brussels top that ranking. Utrecht is the second-most congested Dutch city, followed by Amsterdam.
