Baby rhino birth is an internet hit

A baby Indian rhino was born at Amersfoort zoo in the early hours of Saturday morning with hundreds of people looking on via webcam.

Rhino Saar finally gave birth after a pregnancy lasting almost 500 days. Saar has been under webcam scrutiny for the past few weeks, attracting up to 6,000 viewers a day.
‘Indian rhinos are rare in European zoos and a birth is even rarer,’ a zoo spokeswoman told the paper. It is not yet clear if the baby is male or female.
Only around 3,000 Indian rhinos are thought to remain the wild.
