The political party being set up by controversial former integration minister Rita Verdonk, now an independent MP, would win just five seats in parliament if elections were held now, according to the Maurice de Hond poll at the weekend.

This is the lowest level of popularity for the nationalist TON since it was set up in April. At that time the poll indicated that the party would win 26 of the 150 parliamentary seats in the lower chamber.
The latest poll also indicates a fall in popularity for the Labour coalition party which would be down to 26 seats if an election was held today, down three from two weeks ago.
Confidence in Labour’s finance minister Wouter Bos has also fallen although he remains ahead of his other cabinet colleagues. Education minister Ronald Plasterk is in second place in the Maurice de Hond ratings.
