Dutch train services are worse so far this year

Conductor getting in a train ready to start in The Hague, the NetherlandsDutch train services have been less punctual in the first two months of this year than they were during the same period of 2014, website nu.nl says on Tuesday.

Figures from monitoring website Vertraa.gd show 5.9% of trains ran late in January and February, a full percentage point up on 2014. The figures include delays of five minutes and more.

The NS has been hit by two major problems so far this year – one around Utrecht’s main station on February 2 and one involving a signal failure at Schiphol airport. The weekend train crash near Tilburg, in which eight people were slightly injured, also caused considerable disruption.
