The exit poll published by public and commercial broadcasters Nos and RTL just minutes after the polls closed predicts a narrow majority for the VVD and pundits say the result is still too close to call.

The Ipsos Synovate poll puts the right-wing VVD on 41 seats in the 150-seat parliament and says Labour will win 40. The Socialist Party is on target to take 15 seats, unchanged from its current total.
The exit poll is in line with earlier predictions which forecast the VVD would have a narrow win over Labour and that the Socialists would be well down in third place. However, the size of support for the three parties is very different from that forecast by the polls the day before the election.
The exit poll predicts Geert Wilders’ anti-immigration PVV will win 13 seats, a drop of some 45% on its support in June 2010 when it won 24.
The Liberal democrats D66 and Christian Democrats are forecast to win 12 and 13 seats respectively.
The first results are due in at around 21.45.
