DSB bankruptcy: 1,300 jobs lost today

Some 1,300 people who work at DSB bank’s headquarters in Wognum, Noord Holland will lose their jobs immediately because of the bankruptcy, a spokesman for banking union De Unie told news agency ANP on Monday.

Amsterdam district court declared the bank bankrupt on Monday morning following a weekend of effort to find a buyer or alternative solution.
A further 600 people will remain at work, Joop Hofland told ANP. ‘There are buildings to be maintained, and the ICT system has to be dismantled. In addition, credit portfolios can be sold on,’ he said.
DSB will continue to pay October’s salaries, then responsibility will transfer to the UVW social security benefit office, he said.
