Number of emergency debates up again

The number of emergency parliamentary debates increased again in 2008, reports Wednesday’s Volkskrant. In total, there were 65, up from 43 in 2007 and 29 in 2006.

The total amount of time spent on these debates increased from 924 hours in 2007 to 1,159 hours and 20 minutes in 2008.
Once again Marianne Thieme, leader of the animal rights party PvdD, asked the most parliamentary questions. The 185 written questions she posed broke her previous record of 145 in 2007. In total, ministers had to answer 3,002 questions from MPs, the Volkskrant said.
