Thousands fail to claim Icesave cash
Some 17,000 Dutch people who had savings accounts with the bankrupt internet bank Icesave have not come forward to claim compensation, the AD reports on Tuesday.
An additional 9,000 people have filled in the claim forms wrongly. In total, 144,000 people had Icesave Nederland accounts, the paper says. Savings of up to €100,000 are guaranteed by the government.
Meanwhile the central bank has issued a statement saying a Financieele Dagblad report that it had stopped the takeover of Icesave Nederland was ‘untrue’.
The paper says it repeatedly asked the bank for its comments before running the story and has also asked for further details about what is ‘not true’ in its original report.
