Check tenants’ income, building body says
Tenants should face periodic income checks so the rent on their homes can be adjusted, the construction sector’s economic institute EIB says in Monday’s Financieele Dagblad.
Some 40% of people who live in rent-controlled houses and flats earn too much to qualify for social housing, the paper says.
In addition, well-off tenants should be given the right to buy their rental home, the EIB says. The extra income could be used to build new homes for people currently on the waiting list.
