Teenage births drop sharply

The number of teenage mothers in the Netherlands has dropped sharply since 2001, reports the national statistics agency CBS on Monday.

Most of the fall in numbers can be attributed to fewer teenagers with a non-Western background becoming pregnant, says the CBS.
In 2007 there were 779 non-Western young mums compared with 1,736 in 2001. The figure for Dutch teens remained at around 1,500.
The Netherlands has one of the lowest teenage birthrates in the world.
