Sciences more popular at school

School children are increasingly interested in sciences, according to a survey of 280 secondary schools by the education ministry, reports Thursday’s Financieele Dagblad.

The number of pupils at pre-university VWO schools who choose sciences subjects rose to 55% in the current academic year compared with 50% in 2006/2007. And girls account for a significant part of the growth, the paper says.
The percentage of students doing science subjects at university and college has gone up by around 12% since 2000.
