Disaster exercise for emergency services

The port of Rotterdam is the location for a large-scale disaster exercise on Wednesday, reports news service ANP. The exercise is designed to show how prepared the Netherlands is to deal with a major catastrophe or terrorist attack.

Around 2,000 police, fire and ambulance personnel will take part, along with hundreds of volunteers acting as victims and members of the public.
The Voyager exercise will give the emergency services the chance to react to an accident involving many victims, a terrorist threat and a chemical escape. Ministers in the Hague and Rotterdam will decide on appropriate action.
This is the second action of this kind in the Netherlands. A great deal went wrong during the first one which took place in the Amsterdam Arena football stadium in 2005.
