Schools launch own teaching college

Dutch secondary schools are to set up their own masters teaching certificate to improve teacher training, reports Tuesday’s Volkskrant. The initiative, announced today, comes from a number of secondary school boards who will launch the Dutch Teachers College on August 1 2008 with 300 students.

Education minister Ronald Plasterk has been informed, the paper says, as has SER chairman Alexander Rinnoy Kan, who is launching his own improvement plans for teachers later today.
