Technology to turn sea into water

A consortium including research institute TNO, energy firm Eon and brewer Heineken has succeeded in making fresh water from the sea in a first pilot plant of its kind in the Netherlands.


The tests took place at the Eon’s power plant on the Maasvlakte industrial area near Rotterdam. The technology, known as Memstill, involves distilling water through membranes using surplus industrial heat.
