New strike at Smit in Rotterdam
Workers at port services group Smit in Rotterdam are to stage a second 24-hour strike on Wednesday in support of their pay claim. The union is demanding a €45 a month rise, and one-off payout towards travel expenses and health insurance.
Smit has offered a €30 rise for this year and €40 for 2008. The group carries out some two thirds of the towage activities at Rotterdam port.
