Weather hits Dutch wine growers

Dutch wine growers will see production fall between 20% and 40% this year, Dik Beker of the Dutch wine guild told Nos television.

Sharp frosts in February, following a relatively mild winter hurt grape growth, Beker said. Nevertheless, the quality of the grapes is good following a reasonable autumn.
According to the national statistics office CBS, the Netherlands has around 100 vineyards and the amount of land devoted to grapes has doubled over the past five years to 170 hectares.
Last year’s harvest was also poor.
