A house in Blaricum costed an average €775,000 last year, making the town, south east of Amsterdam, the most expensive place to live in the Netherlands yet again.

House prices fell 1.7% in Blaricum last year, but the number of houses changing hands rose by 23%, the annual survey by Woningmarktcijfers.nl said.

Bloemendaal, with an average house price of €698,000 was second and Wassenaar, home to crown prince Willem-Alexander and his family, was third at €592,000.

At the other end of the scale, Groningen's Pekela remains the cheapest place to buy a house, with an average price of €133,000. It is followed by De Maarne and Kerkrade where the average home also costs less than €140,000.
