Take-home pay to go down slightly next yearWednesday 25 November 2009 Take-home pay will be down marginally next year despite salary increases because of changes in income tax, according to calculations by payroll company ADP. Staff who earn some €5,000 gross a month will be €9.71 a month worse off because of changes in the upper rate tax bands. The 52% tax band will start at €54,367 next year, a cut of €409 on the 2009 limit. People earning €1,800 gross a month will be €1.42 worse off, ADP said. At the presentation of the government's 2010 spending plans in September, the CPB macro-economic forecasting agency said spending power would go down across the board. © DutchNews.nl
I know a non-Dutch, Dutch passport holding, man earning €2000 month, who in 15 years in Holland has managed to make two small mistakes ("put foot wrong twice when come here first") this month had €600 extra just taken from his income by Belastingsdienstmdue due to tax increases, leaving him with approx €10 to feed himself. He cannot figure out why they have taken €600, and they will only say it's due to Government tax increases. Actually, I've met many people here who have similar problems with Belastringsdienst. The only way to win is to be bloody-minded, and buy only what you need & not what you desire! The government does not like people spending their money in other countries. For example, pensioners are not allowed to be away from the Netherlands for more than 3 months per year. We are encouraged to stay put and spend all our income here in the Netherlands... This is again.... absolutely stupid. My wife last year received a promotion, moved up a pay scale, and ended up coming home with less than she was doing. Now it seems it will happen again. The tax laws here are bonkers.
