New baby gets two hearing implants
Tuesday 25 August 2009
Surgeons at Amsterdam's VU University medical centre have successfully placed hearing implants in both ears of a four-month-old baby boy, the hospital authorities said on Tuesday.
The university claims it is the first time such an operation has been carried out on a very young child.
The child was not born deaf, but lost his hearing after suffering meningitis.
