Queen's commissioner steps down at ABP

The queen's commissioner in Noord-Holland province, Harry Borghouts, has agreed to step down from the supervisory board at one of the world's biggest pension funds, the Dutch civil service fund ABP.

Provincial councillors had threatened a no-confidence vote in Borghouts, who had been under fire for his role in the loss of €78m of council cash in bankrupt internet bank Icesave.

Borghouts will also give up five other jobs which he did in addition to his job as head of the provincial council. He survived a no-confidence threat last month by saying he would step down at ABP but later appeared to back-track.

The entire seven-strong council executive board resigned in the wake of the scandal. Now a new board has been appointed, made up of old and new members. It meets for the first time on Monday in an effort to put the Landsbanki affair behind it, news agency ANP reports.
