Unemployment falls again
Thursday 16 October 2008
Unemployment fell again in the three-month period July to September 2008 with 284,000 people now officially out of work, reports the national statistics agency CBS on Thursday.
This is 3.7% of the population compared with 4.3% in the year earlier period.
Unemployment has fallen by 4,000 people a month for the past six months, says the CBS. This is slower than the 6,000 a month decline recorded in 2006 and 2007.

On the positive side, low unemployment will help the NL weather the current economic crisis by being better able to re-employ those laid off due to this situation.
On the negative side will be the silent ones now suffering in nursing homes who are lacking sufficient staff to tend to their care.
Older citizens and residents must surely wonder if the egocentric 'me' generations really will do much to help care for them as they did for theirs when they were younger?
The Philippines has special schooling explicitly designed for the kind of caregiver training that is needed so desperately now here. The harsh immigration laws put in place by then Secretary Job Cohen and later implemented by Minister Rita Verdonk need to be revised to be able to allow special resident visas for groups such as these specially trained Philippino caregivers and the like to come and help us out now.
