Prince to promote hand washingWednesday 15 October 2008 Crown prince Willem-Alexander is to promote personal hygiene by encouraging children in South Africa to wash their hands after using the toilet and before eating, reports website Nu.nl. As chairman of the UN advisory board for water and sanitation, the prince is in Pretoria to celebrate Global Hand-Washing Day which has been organised by the UN, the World Bank and a number of businesses including Anglo-Dutch soap-maker Unilever. © DutchNews.nl
Well done to Unilever for cashing in on this well-disguised profit scheme. I wonder how they sleep at night?! By Katharine | October 15, 2008 12:49 PM Hehe, right on Garry. It should be noted are chemical contaminants in soaps. http://www.foodandwaterwatch.org/water/chemical-contaminants/what-is-lurking-in-your-soap By Jay Vos | October 15, 2008 5:18 PM Am shocked how can they buy soap when some people have no water to drink i wish he could get the way how to get them water to drink first then he can tell them to wash their hands..any way it was a good meaning but i know some people in sudan somalia and other countrries peole cant get water to drink! they can only drink water when it rains! My God bless the suffering! By Eva | October 15, 2008 6:04 PM Perhaps soap labeled "Made in Holland", hey why not? The prince only wants to help, right? Hopefully he practices what he preaches as well. By Carlos Borjal | October 15, 2008 6:37 PM I find this hilarious! Try standing in a Dutch public toilet & count how many dutch people wash their hands after using the facilities... maybe the prince first needs to teach the locals... to lead by example. Let them buy soap!
Great. Now all he needs to do is make sure the people have water clean enough to wash with. When told the French peope could not buy bread, the Queen, Marie Antoinette, is reoported to have said 'Let them eat cake' or more accurately 'brioche' (she didn't but that's by the by). When told thoussands are dying because they do not wash their hands, not to mention gthe fact that they're living in poverty and without proper sanitation, what does the Dutch crown prince say? Let them buy soap!
